I specialize in social and political philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of religion. I also have broad interests in Ancient Greek philosophy, aesthetics, metaethics, epistemology, metaphysics, and philosophy of language — and in historical figures such as Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, and Arendt.
I first studied philosophy because I wanted to answer questions about God. I now work primarily on the political theoretic question of whether integrity and civility can be compatible in democratic societies where citizens make conflicting religious, moral, and philosophical commitments.
I love to ski, climb, race in triathlons, and play the violin. After growing up in Ohio, I spent all four years of high school in Albania. I have since interned at the United Nations offices in New York and worked in humanitarian contexts in Greece, Bangladesh, and Iraq. I am a hopeful Cincinnati Reds fan.
